The trading desk of the future will look very different than it does today. While today's traders stare at stacks of screens pulsing with quotes, news and charts, that environment is on its way out, according to buy-side traders who attended Advanced Trading's annual Buy-Side Trading Summit in Naples, Fla., in October.rnOver the next three to five years, the trading room will begin to resemble more of a library atmosphere or a doctoral laboratory, where people are working on long-term research projects rather than basing their trades on the last tick, predicted one speaker, the CEO of an automated trading firm. Instead of watching CNBC for breaking news, traders will be looking at a billion ticks of historical data, he said.
