Is expert insight legitimate industry research or illegal insider trading? Since November, an intensifying insider-trading probe has characterized much of the advice supplied by so-called expert networks as confidential, inside information, rather than mere industry gossip. The probe has led to the arrest of seven employees and consultants associated with Primary Global, an expert research firm based in Mountain View, Calif. Some of these experts were consultants hired by Primary Global; others were employees of technology or healthcare companies.
