Hanoi plea for help in study of defoliants

A Vietnamese surgeon visiting the Bay Area appealed yesterday for US help to study the long-term health effects of dioxin contamination from herbicide spraying by the American military in South Vietnam. "We estimate we would have to study 50,000 to 100,000 persons, and my country does not have the resources to do this alone," said Dr. Ton That Tung, director and chief of surgery at the Viet Duc Huu Nghi Hospital in Hanoi.
