Viet Nam underwent over a millennium of being dominated by northern invaders (111 BC-938). Therefore, it is obvious that Vietnamese culture was influenced by Chinese culture. Even Korea and Japan, that were not under heavy political pressure from China, were also affected more or less by their neighbor's culture. Therefore, China, Korea, Japan and Viet Nam are commonly called "homo-cultural" countries.
