Water puppetry is a folk staging art originated from the Ly Dynasty in the 11th and 12th centuries. Water puppetry usually showed on the occasion of traditional New Year or Vietnamese festivals. The current collection of Vietnamese water puppetry consists of 30 traditional performances and hundreds of modern stages.rnOver the past 10 centuries, water puppetry was nurtured and developed through village festivities in the Red River delta region. Staged- performances usually reflected the working life of Vietnamese peasants. Gradually, water puppetry became a typical folk art of Vietnam. Puppetry is popular in the world but only Vietnam has water puppetry.
