Innovative design based on LIDAR technology

摘要

Vaisala has developed a new ceilometer with an innovative optical design. Based on LIDAR technology, the ceilometer offers several important advantages — a smaller, lightweight optical sub-assembly, better protection against window contamination, and easy service and maintenance. The preliminary experiences with the new ceilometer confirm its close-range measurement capability and its improved ability to detect cloud bases in rain. As this innovation shows, LIDAR technology offers great potential as a meteorological measurement tool.
