Fermi Energia working with local government to site Estonia's first SMR

ERR reported October 23 that Fermi Energia, a small modular reactor (SMR) project development company in Estonia,has proposed to the Viru-Nigula municipal government to discuss potentially siting the country’s first SMR along Estonia’s northern coast. Fermi Energia Management Board Member Henri Ormus said, “We have met with people from the Viru-Nigula municipality altogether on seven occasions at different locations in the municipality over the course of 18 months and explained the substance of the project in the municipality council on two occasions.” Ormus cautioned, however, that the location for the company’s first SMR has not yet been determined,but rather that the local consent process has commenced and provides both sides with confidence for further site selection confidence. “We will go on conducting studies of locations and presenting the project also at the other locations shortlisted in the exclusion analysis,” Ormus added.
