By this time in a typical TV season, half the new fall shows would have flopped. As it is, many of them haven't even debuted. The Olympics, the presidential debates, and the baseball playoffs didn't let the first new dramas and comedies squeeze into the TV listings until last week. Several more, including big-ticket celebrity vehicles like Bette, starring Bette Midler, and The Geena Davis Show, will premiere this week. But the entire fall lineup won't be in motion until November, right in time for the stunt-driven ratings sweeps to bollix up everything all over again.
