摘要

Standing amid the frozen mountaintops of the Himalayas three years ago, climbing guide Jon Rosenson decided to put down his ice ax and pick up a stethoscope. For a decade he had been teaching adventure travelers how to scale steep terrain and snowy glaciers. But at 33, he wanted a change: "I wanted to serve a more diverse, less privileged group of people." Attorney Susan Lee, now 29, realized recently that her true calling was not as a litigator but as a healer. Stints in corporate and nonprofit law left her uninspired. Volunteer work at a women's health center, on the other hand, thrilled her. Last fall their two very different paths converged with mine in medical school at the University of California-San Francisco.
