Tiny cameras, big pictures

The path to picking a digital camera usually leads to a fork in the road. On one side is the small camera that's convenient to carry but doesn't take the sharpest pictures; on the other, a camera that crisply catches all the details and color but is comparatively bulky. Several new models are blazing a fresh trail, combining shirt-pocket portability with the power to take brilliant pictures suitable for framing. Three examples of diminutive digital sharpshooters are the Fujifilm FinePix F450 ($400), the Canon PowerShot SD20 ($350), and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T33 ($450). All three are about three quarters of an inch thick and smaller than a deck of cards. And all three take digital photos with crisp resolutions of 5 megapixels or better. That means that you can blow their pictures up to make 8-by-10 prints or resize and edit the images without making Uncle Nick's face look fuzzy.
