On one of the coldest days of the season, seating in front of my laptop, I raised my head to look outside through a set of Frank Lloyd Wright prairie-style windows. A large flock of Canadian geese were resting, calmly and orderly, on ice over a frozen pound. Why didn't they fly away to some place with a more temperate climate, especially for this time of year? My thoughts drifted to San Francisco, California, in late spring or maybe early summer.
