London Voices, London Lives: Tales from a Working Capital

Describing, analysing and representing the city through narrative and personal testimonies have always been a core part of urban studies and sociological writings more generally. There are different ways to describe the city, from the use of personal testimonials to create images of the city, to the deployment of the methods of the discursive turn that considers the city as a text. The conveyance of actors' testimonials, such as those of planners, academics, bureaucrats, local administrators and, of course, employees and the inhabitants of cities, is, arguably, crucial to any research project that seeks to understand the city.
