Negotiating cohesion, inequality and change: uncomfortable positions in local government

This book is about the politics of community cohesion and the evolution of community cohesion policy across local government in England. The author argues that community cohesion has become an amorphous and problematic term - at times championed as an aspiration of multicultural integration and shared belonging in local areas, and at other times cast as a 'problem' and issue to resolve. She describes how the term encompasses a whole range of discourses, policies and strategies around how different groups and institutions 'cohere' and 'rub along' in local areas in light of inequality, diversity and change.
