Global gentrifications. Uneven development and displacement

The book edited by Loretta Lees, Hyun Bang Shin and Ernesto Lopez-Morales assembled 20 contributions: selected papers from the international seminar series entitled 'Towards and emerging geography of gentrification in the Global South' (2012) and also several papers prepared by invited researchers working on gentrification and related issues in diverse parts of the globe. The authors shed light on the epistemological limits of commonly accepted theoretical approaches to gentrification. In non-traditional manner, the book offers a case-oriented empirical lens to explore the gentrification beyond the usual suspects: a number of the chapters are located in the Global South or East. This approach embedded in the 'new' comparative urbanism (Robinson 2006) tends to overcome the hegemony of implicitly used Anglo-American conceptualizations of gentrification. The goal of this book was to critically discuss the processes occurring outside the Global North as well as to wider debate among scholars from around the globe, which was indeed highly successful.
