CHINESE offshore operator CNOOC Ltd will develop the Huizhou 26-6 oilfield - one of its latest finds in the South China Sea - using a floating production, storage and offloading vessel. CNOOC Ltd Shenzhen, which is spending considerable time and resources exploring and developing the field in the Pearl River Mouth basin, has completed a conceptual development plan for the Huizhou 26-6 oil play, well-placed sources told Upstream. A 2021 discovery, Huizhou 26-6 was hailed as the first commercial discovery the company had made in this region in more than a decade. CNOOC Ltd plans to drill a few appraisal wells at the Huizhou trough, after having just completed a major 3D seismic survey, before achieving first oil in late 2024 or early 2025. Instead of newbuild or conversion, CNOOC Ltd has opted to redeploy one of its existing floaters currently in service for the Wenchang 13-1 and Wen-chang 13-2 fields in the South China Sea's Beibu Gulf.
