TOTALENERGIES' closely watched Keskesi South-1 appraisal well, just drilled on Block 58 offshore Suriname, hit only non-commercial quantities of hydrocarbons, according to the French company's 50% partner on the concession, Apache. Keskesi South-1 was drilled 6.2 kilometres from the discovery well Keskesi East-1, but interrupted a run of four significant discoveries, plus a successful appraisal, announced by the partners so far. "The first appraisal well at Keskesi was a substantial step-out designed to assess the southern extent of the feature," Tracey Henderson, Apaches's senior vice president of exploration, said. "This location had the potential to confirm a very large resource in place if connected to the reservoir sands in the discovery well," she said, but added that "suitable reservoir quality sands were not developed in the Campanian target at the Keskesi South-l location". Henderson said data gathered from the well will be used to calibrate a geological model and inform the next steps for Keskesi appraisal.
