Rig search starts for Indonesia drill drive

OPERATORS are seeking rigs for upcoming drilling campaigns in Indonesia as wildcatting and development plans get back on track after months of pandemic disruption. Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, a subsidiary of national oil company Pertamina, this week invited drilling contractors to pre-qualify to supply a jack-up rig for a 2022 campaign on its Mahakam block offshore East Kalimantan. The operator envisages a possible six or seven wells in this drilling programme, which has a target start date of next April. Pertamina wants a jack-up rig of BMC375 to BMC400 design, built in 2000 or later, and preferably already in South-East Asia, according to prequalification documents seen by Upstream. If the drilling unit is currently stacked, it must be warm-stacked with proof of maintenance for the past three months.
