'Serious breaches' over Equinor's Castberg FPSO

AN overly lean organisational structure and an underestimation of the early engineering scope contributed to a plethora of problems at Equinor's Johan Castberg development, according to an investigation by Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA). Norwegian operator Equinor has been issued with an order by the PSA over the troubled scheme, with serious breaches of Norwegian regulations unearthed with the hull of the floating production, storage and offloading unit. In July last year, Upstream revealed that Equinor had discovered issues with the quality of welding on the Johan Castberg FPSO hull, and it had initiated a 100% inspection of all weld seams.
