Fears over output at Rokan

US supermajor Chevron and Indonesia's national oil company Per-tamina are making significant progress during the transition phase of the giant Rokan asset that the latter will take over in August - although a key stumbling block remains to maintaining future output levels. Pertamina will this year take the reins at Rokan after Chevron failed to secure an extension for the key mature asset. The new operator will need technical expertise, enhanced oil recovery chemicals and deep pockets if oil and gas production rates are not going to accelerate their decline. Chevron Pacific Indonesia has completed the majority of asset data collection and has handed over data on production, exploration and operational support activities to Indonesia's upstream regulator SKK Migas. Chevron has also started to share these data with soon-to-be operator Pertamina Hulu Rokan so that the transition process can run smoothly.
