摘要

FIVE people have died while eight others remain missing following the capsize of a liftboat in the US Gulf of Mexico earlier this month, with an investigation under way as efforts switched midweek from rescue to recovery. The 234-foot Seacor Power liftboat left Port Fourchon, Louisiana, in rough weather conditions on the afternoon of 13 April, heading for a Talos Energy-operated platform near the mouth of the Mississippi River. A Jack-up liftboat is a self-elevating vessel with a large deck area that can transport people and equipment to and from shallow-water offshore installations, typically oil and gas platforms or rigs. The Seacor Power, owned by US vessel operator Seacor Marine, only made it eight miles (13 kilometres) into the US Gulf in three hours before it capsized.
