MARINE and offshore are in Alex Gregg-Smith's DNA. "I always wanted to be in the maritime industry since childhood," says the newly appointed senior vice president of North Asia and chief executive of marine and offshore China for French testing, inspection and certification service Bureau Veri-tas. Gregg-Smith's father and grandfather both served in the naval armed forces, a tradition that helped steer his educational path - he has an I MEng in naval architecture and marine engineer- I ing from Newcastle University and is a chartered engineer and a qualified LL.M master of law, maritime studies.
