摘要

SOUTH Africa's government has moved fast to select eight projects together costing more than $3 billion to provide a short-term fix to the country's debilitating power brownouts and blackouts, with gas-based schemes involving French supermajor Total and Turkey's Karpowership dominating the investments. South Africa's energy networks have been in a state of disrepair and dysfunction for a decade, with state-owned utility Eskom on its knees after years of financial mismanagement and misuse of funds, particularly under the administration of the country's former president Jacob Zuma.
