EQUINOR was placed on a watch list by Singapore's Ministry of Manpower during the second half of 2020, making it much tougher for the Norwegian state-controlled oil company to bring in overseas workers for its construction projects in the city-state. The company told Upstream it was put on the watch list by Singaporean authorities in July and has faced some difficulties getting permits for expatriates to work in the city-state during the corona-virus pandemic. "Equinor was put on the list because the authorities claimed we had too many foreign workers compared to local workers," the company stated. "It is challenging to get work permits for foreign labour in Singapore, especially during Covid-19."
