Trio in the frame for Adnoc's Umm Shaif

A trio of leading offshore contractors or consortia are poised to submit commercial offers early next month for a substantial contract from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) that involves work on the long-term development phase of its giant Umm Shaif oilfield. Multiple people familiar with the development told Upstream that the delayed tender process for the first phase of the development - known as Umm Shaif LTDP-l -has gained momentum, with the operator setting a commercial bid deadline. "The project appears to be moving in the right direction and commercial bids are due early January," one person confirmed. The Emirati state-owned giant has adopted a selective approach towards big-ticket oil-based developments due to the oil demand destruction amid the coronavirus pandemic, although it has ambitious plans to scale up its production capacity to 5 million barrels per day. A second person said that, despite the delays, Adnoc could yet finalise its preferred contractor by the first half next year. Those said to have submitted technical bids to Adnoc earlier this year and are likely to be preparing commercial bids include Abu Dhabi's National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) and a grouping of UK's Petrofac with Malaysia's Sapura Energy as the sub-contractor. In addition, a third group led by Indian engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T), with Italy's Saipem as the sub-contractor is also believed to be among the bidders, one person said.
