THE Supreme Court in gas-rich Papua New Guinea has ordered parliament to sit on 14 December in what could result in a potential vote of no-confidence in Prime Minister James Marape. Marape has been combating a power play by opposition parliamentarians and dozens of his own coalition government who joined the opposition benches on 14 November. Former prime minister Peter O'Neill and leader of the opposition Belden Namah have claimed all year that Marape's government is taking the country backwards. Marape and the remaining members of government quickly passed the 2021 budget, and adjourned the house until next April.
