Petrobras targets subsea hardware disposal

BRAZILIAN oil giant Petrobras has launched a tender to contract services to remove "massive" amounts of flexible pipe and mooring hardware that used to serve a plethora of ageing production platforms in the Campos basin. The tender, for which commercial bids are due on 4 March, marks a sudden shift from study to action on the decommissioning of thousands of tonnes of ageing infrastructure from the seabed. State-controlled Petrobras has come under pressure from federal environmental agency Ibama in recent years, due to the latter's preference for a decommissioning solution that involves outright removal of all redundant subsea equipment.
