US independent Apache has agreed to extend by an additional five months the contract of the drillship Noble Sam Croft to conclude a four-well exploration campaign off Suriname. Apache is presently drilling a third exploration well -Kwaskwasi-1 - on Block 58 in the Guyana-Suriname basin following two oil discoveries in the area with Maka Central-l and Sapakara West-1. The drillship was originally chartered until June but Apache has decided to exercise a one-well option to keep the rig working in Suriname until mid-November, Noble said in its latest fleet status report. Maka Central-l, announced in January, and Sapakara West-1 in April have been described as highly significant, both in terms of volumes and oil quality, which ranges from 35 to 45 degrees API.
