Noble Drilling reports $1bn hit on impairments

US driller Noble Corporation posted a first-quarter loss of $1.06 billion after taking a massive impairment charge as it retires four workhorse rigs. Noble took a writedown of $1.12 billion but did see a beneficial offset of $43 million due to funds from the US coronavirus CARES stimulus package, it said last week. Revenue fell to $267.3 million compared to $270 million in the same period last year. The company has a revenue backlog of $1.5 billion, including $1 billion from the floating fleet and $500 million from the jack-up fleet.
