NEW E&P ventures, particularly offshore, have been thin on the ground of late in Thailand. National upstream company PTTEP is blazing a trail both domestically and overseas, but there is little buzz from other players, although the government is hoping to inject some fresh enthusiasm with its 21st licensing round, if and when it is launched. PTTEP beat Chevrori to secure new production sharing contracts for the giant producing Bongkot and Erawan gas fields in the Gulf of Thailand, leaving the US operator at a loss as to what more it could have done at least to retain Erawan.
