Terminal capacity to double

LOCAL authorities in eastern China's Shandong province have endorsed a Sinopec proposal to nearly double the capacity of the Qingdao liquefied natural gas import terminal to 11 million tonnes per annum. The approval paves the way for Sinopec to expand its LNG market from Shandong to Jiangsu province. The off-site facilities will include an LNG storage tank and a jetty. State-owned Sinopec will soon launch the terminal's engineering tender which, according to multiple sources, will be open only to Chinese engineering houses. The terminal is now under a second phase of capacity expansion from 6 million to 7 million tpa. The second expansion phase includes the building of two 160,000 cubic metre capacity storage tanks.
