TRANSOCEAN remains in talks with clients about a potential upgrade of the drillship Deepwater Atlas for ultra-high-pressure projects in the US Gulf of Mexico, which would make it only the industry's second deep-water rig suited for 20k completions. Chevron signed a contract for the Deepwater Titan, the first such unit, for its Anchor project which was sanctioned in late 2019. Transocean chief executive Jeremy Thigpen said during a March webinar that his company was close to signing a deal to underpin the upgrading of a second rig to handle high pressures and would keep it busy through to 2025 at the earliest.
