Covid-19 fallout delays modules for Petrobras P-71 project in Brazil

THE P-71 floating production, storage and offloading vessel destined to work for Petrobras off Brazil is facing several months' delay due to a revised delivery schedule for two key topsides modules. CIMC Raffles, the Chinese shipyard group that has already built the hull for the P-71 floater, won an additional contract when Brazil's state-controlled operator Petrobras asked for the speedy replacement of two power generation modules after the originals were lost in a barge transport operation off Brazil in May last year. The lost modules each housed twin power turbines, and suppliers were asked to stick to a tight 11-month delivery timeline to mitigate potential delays. German engineering giant Siemens replaced the power generation turbines from stocks left over from the Brazil market downturn in 2016.
