Oklahoma's Scoop and Staack face output drop

PRODUCTION out of the US state of Oklahoma is expected to decline in 2020 following last year's drastic drop in rigs operating in the region's shale plays and persistently weak natural gas prices. "In most cases we're expecting a decline of oil and gas production out of Oklahoma looking at 2020 and into the future as well," research analyst at RS Energy Group, Shak Ahmed, told Upstream. Operating rigs in the state's shale plays — the Scoop in the south and the Stack in the north — fell by 70% from the beginning to the end of 2019, Ahmed said. The state's rig count stood at 53 as of the week of 24 January, according to data from oilfield services player Baker Hughes, down 73 units year-on-year. The state hit a low of 49 rigs in July 1999, according to Baker Hughes data. Crude and natural gas production from the Anadarko basin is expected to fall from January to February, according to the US Energy Information Administra-tion's monthly drilling productivity report.
