MEXICAN regulators have granted approval to CNOOC Ltd to drill the deep-water Ameya-li-1EXP well in the Perdido fold-belt near the US maritime border, with work planned to kick off in May. The probe is the first by the Chinese state-owned operator on what has been long-awaited drilling action on a pair of blocks it won in Mexico's initial deep-water Round 1.4 in 2016, Areas 1 and 4.
