摘要

BORU Energy may have a small team of only four, but the UK-based newcomer backed by funds from private equity giant Carlyle Group has big ambitions. Helmed by a team of former Tullow Oil executives, including the Anglo-Irish independent's founder and ex-chairman Aidan Heavey, the company is wasting no time chasing its first acquisition — with deal values of $500 million or more within its hitting zone. Led by chief executive Tom Hickey, a former chief financial officer at Tullow, the London-based player was officially launched only in early October, with Carlyle International Energy Partners (CIEP) making up to $1 billion of funding available for assets. The remit is Sub-Saharan Africa, with Hickey telling Upstream recently at his first public outing as Boru's boss — at the Africa Oil Week conference in Cape Town — that both onshore and offshore assets will be considered, but exploration or operated positions are off the table — at least for now.
