Equinor broadens floater scope for Rosebank field

EQUINOR'S challenging Rosebank project off the UK is on the move with Aker Solutions carrying out early studies on floater concepts beyond the base-case solution of a ship-shape floating production, storage and offloading vessel. Industry sources said the operator plans to award one or more pre-front-end engineering and design contracts in the middle of this year and select its preferred development concept next year. While an FPSO is still said to be the favoured option to exploit Rosebank, Upstream was told that Equinor's low-emissions objectives and its desire to integrate power-from-shore infrastructure into the project — and the inherent technical challenges this involves — means Aker must assess other floater solutions.
