GHANA has revisited a decision by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to suspend payments to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and to the country's gas suppliers while consultations proceed over the government's proposed renegotiation of take-or-pay agreements across the energy industry. The government has "placed on hold initial instructions issued on 1 August to the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to pay only for power or gas consumed," according to a statement issued last weekend by the ministry's co-ordinating director Michael Ayesu.
