North Dakota Bakken flaring hits new high

OPERATORS in the US state of North Dakota curbed production and flared a record amount of natural gas in June as planned and unplanned midstream outages effectively shut off market access. The amount of gas flared in the state, home to the Bakken shale, increased by 155 million cubic feet per day to 687 MMcfd from May to June, North Dakota Department of Natural Resources director Lynn Helms said. Gas capture fell to 76%, well below the state target of 88%. "We really fell out of bed in terms of flaring," Helms told reporters during a recent webinar.
