IT IS not often the trade union movement seeks to ride to the rescue of an oil supermajor like BP, as was seen this week in the UK North Sea. The RMT union accused Greenpeace of "irresponsible" behaviour when it tried to halt a Transocean rig chartered by BP. Jake Molloy, regional organiser for RMT, said campaigners should concentrate on those burning coal or other higher-carbon fuels. The apparent alliance highlighted a sometimes overlooked dimension of climate issues - jobs.
