TWO Chinese yards have already been lined up to carry out pre-front engineering and design studies on the generic hulls for the floating production, storage and offloading vessels that Equinor intends to install at the Carcara field and potentially elsewhere in Brazil, writes Xu Yihe. Sources said Equinor has signed up with Japanese floater specialist Modec and its Dutch rival SBM to lead the two separate studies. They added that Modec has teamed up with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) for the engineering job for a standard hull of the FPSO, while SBM is set to work with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) on the same job.
