US sheds 10 rigs

THE count of rigs exploring for oil and gas in the US dropped by 10 last week to 1016, according to the latest count from oil services firm Baker Hughes. That compares to 995 units a year ago. Most of the losses came amid the tally of rigs exploring for oil, which was off by nine to 824. The count exploring for gas was off by one to total 192. The Permian basin of Texas bore the brunt of the declines, shedding five rigs for a total of 459. The Arkoma Woodford, Cana Woodford and Haynesville areas all saw declines to three, 52 and 57 respectively. Meanwhile the Utica and Wil-liston basin each added one unit for totals of 15 and 57. By state, Louisiana and New Mexico dropped by three and two rigs respectively for totals of 62 and 104. Texas shed four for a total of 497, and Oklahoma dropped by two to 109.
