SHELL received bids this week from a number of companies hoping to win a front-end engineering and design contract on the supermajor's challenging ultra-high-pressure high-temperature Jackdaw project in the UK central North Sea. Bids were submitted by a 1 April deadline, industry sources told Upstream. It is expected that two contractors could be selected as early as next month to go forward into a competitive FEED process that will last until about the end of the year. The FEED will focus on a normally unmanned platform that is expected to weigh in at 4000 to 5000 tonnes. Jackdaw is widely expected to be tied back to Shell's Shearwater complex in the central North Sea. Upstream reported earlier this year that several fabricators, some teaming up with engineering contractors, had received invitations to tender. Since then, Upstream understands that the companies that have submitted bids include US giant McDermott; Italy's Rosetti Marino with input from UK-based Genesis; and Dutch fabricator HSM Offshore with compatriot IV Oil & Gas.
