INDIA'S private sector giant Reliance Industries has awarded South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries a sizeable floating production, storage and offloading vessel newbuild contract for its MJ deep-water gas and condensate project off India's east coast. Samsung confirmed in a stock exchange disclosure that it has landed a 1.104 trillion won ($967 million) contract for a newbuild FPSO from an unnamed Asian client. However, industry sources have confirmed the award relates to Reliance's MJ FPSO. "Reliance placed the FPSO award on 19 April after several rounds of negotiations with the South Korean player," one source told Upstream.
