Brazil reveals terms for transfer of rights payments

THE Brazilian government has unveiled the terms that will be used to calculate payments for upstream costs incurred by Petrobras in the transfer of rights area. This is a key component of the much-awaited mega pre-salt auction planned this year that is expected to yield a record-breaking 106.5 billion reais ($26.7 billion) in signature bonuses. The compensation for investments made so far by Petrobras will be paid by new investors that acquire production sharing contracts in the round, which is scheduled for 28 October, covering large surplus volumes of oil in the Buzios, Atapu, Sepia and Itapu fields in the Santos basin pre-salt province.
