Leading Australian players push for more gas

AUSTRALIA'S leading homegrown oil and gas companies are focused mostly on increasing their liquefied natural gas production and finding more gas, preferably near their existing fields. Half of the top 10 petroleum producers in Australia are based in the country. Woodside Petroleum is the third-largest producer, followed by BHP at fourth and Santos in sixth place, due to its acquisition last year of Quadrant Energy. Origin Energy and Beach Energy - which acquired Origin's subsidiary Lattice Energy, doubling its production - are about the eighth and tenth largest producers in the country.
