SERBIA has intensified its push to build an extension of the Gazprom-owned TurkStream gas pipeline that would run 109 kilometres between its borders with Bulgaria and Hungary, writes Vladimir Afanasiev. The Gastrans joint venture between Serbian gas pipeline operator Srbijagas and Russian gas monopoly Gazprom is set to open an "open season" tender this month, inviting binding bids to reserve throughput capacity in the planned pipeline, Serbia Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic told public broadcaster RTS. Gastrans will then make an investment decision on the pipeline project "at the end of February or the beginning of March", said Antic. "Under such circumstances, the construction of the gas pipeline can start at the end of March or the beginning of April," he added. Construction of the pipeline is expected to take seven to eight months, Srbijagas executive director Dusan Bajatovic said.
