Oil-prone acreage expected to be unveiled at bid round later this year

MOZAMBIQUE'S much-discussed sixth licensing round is set to be launched in the second half of this year, possibly as soon as July, writes Iain Esau, The acreage to be offered by the National Institute of Petroleum (INP) in Maputo is expected to be oil-prone and will likely cover the country's Angoche and Zambezi basins off Nampula and Zambesia provinces, respectively. The planned round will be underpinned by seismic data shot by Spectrum and WesternGeco. Neil Hodgson, Spectrum's head of geosci-ence, said this week: "There is no official word... but there is a stated intent (by the government) that in the second half of the year, Mozambique will be holding a licensing round."
