Prelude FLNG homing in on gas production 'soon'

ANGLO-DUTCH supermajor Shell expects "shortly" to be producing liquefied natural gas at its multi-billion dollar Prelude floating LNG project off Australia, writes Amanda Battersby. "We've opened four of the wells on Prelude and we're working our way down the vessel in terms of commissioning and starting up all the steps towards liquefaction," Shell director of integrated gas and new energies, Maarten Wetselaar, told Upstream. "We're taking the time it takes to do this in a safe and sustainable manner. We're already producing liquids at the moment, and that's going well." However, Wetselaar would not be drawn on whether Prelude - the world's largest FLNG unit - would reach its nameplate capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per annum of LNG during 2019.
