Dorado could open the door for Carnarvon

AN UPCOMING exploration and appraisal campaign on the play-opening Dorado oil discovery in Western Australia's offshore Bedout sub-basin could place Carnarvon Petroleum on the fast track to generating oil revenues. A Santos-led joint venture is set to begin a three-well campaign next month using the jack-up Noble Tom Prosser, which will include two appraisal wells and the Roc South-1 exploration well. Speaking exclusively to Upstream, Adrian Cook, managing director of Dorado partner Carnarvon, explained that drilling the exploration well between the two appraisal wells will allow the joint venture to analyse the results from Dorado-2 to ensure they get the location of Dorado-3 right. "We will go in with half a dozen different options (for the Dorado-3 location) and if Dorado-2 produces a conservative number then Dorado-3 might be a more prudent position. "But if Dorado-2 shows that there's still more growth in this then we might actually decide to be more risky in our location for Dorado-3," he said.
