Parallel and complementary efforts are underway within the U.S. Army and industry to ensure the timely deployment of Armed Robotic Vehicles (ARV) for the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS), representing a fundamental re-equipping and restructuring of Army ground forces for combat in the 21st Century. The Army's next generation of lighter, more agile unmanned ground combat vehicles will pack a punch equal to today's Cold War-era heavy tank and armored tracked vehicle forces, but with the deployability of nimble, lightly armed infrantrymen. The goal is to be able to whisk the equivalent of a combat-capable brigade to a troublespot anywhere in the world within 96 hours, followed by a division equivalent in 120 hours, and five divisions within 30 days.
